First full day in Lagos.  We started the day with breakfast at the restort/hotel - this one is worth it.  Lots of items to choose from including local food as well as more traditional Canadian fare.

With full bellies we took a walk into town.  Lagos is not very big, but has lots of history.  It's a port town and was very important during the 1500 and 1600's but when the earthquake of 1755 hit and with the tsunami that followed the town got wiped out.  Only a few of the original city walls remain.

We wandered the streets, looking in at the shops, taking in the neighbourhood squares, following the Rick Steeves walking tour.  Which took us to a museum, and small churh, which were central to Lagos.  This church is not in use.

We then took a walk along the waterfront and down to the beach.  The sand was wonderful, warm and fine, we also got to dip our feet into this side of the Atlantic.  I was expecting the ocean to be a little warmer, but no, its just as cold as the Atlantic back home.  The beach is beautiful, sand so soft, laced with whole as well as broken sea shells.  The length of the beach is broken up with rocky outcrops, with openings eroded by the ocean to allow you to go from one section of the beach to the next.

After taking a strole along the beach we stopped for some lunch at a nice little spot on the edge of the clift overlooking the beach.  We kept it light today as we did go all out the last two days, but we did treat ourselves to a great dessert, it was a Gelado with Fondont do Caramelo, which translates to Caramel Gelato, with a cake centered with warm melted caramel - soo good.

We spent the rest of the day at the hotel next to the swimming pool, they do not heat thier pool here and it was just about as cold as the Atlantic.  Just taking a break from walking and touring, our feet and my knee really appreciated it.

For dinner we also kept it simple, and just found a little pizza place.

Tomorrow we are off to Evora, a walled city in the middle of the country.
