Alaska /Seattle: Day Two: Seattle
by: Mark Comeau

Today we're hanging around in Seattle.  We do have a few things that we need to do, some exploring and some shopping.

We started with Target, we needed to get some dramamine just in case we did get sea sick on the cruise.  Krista also got some makeup that she needed for the cruise.

Patagonia has a great plan where you can trade in your old clothes for credit and then use it to buy something new.  We had some clothes that did not fit us any more.  So we did the trade in and we both got some new pants to replace them.

We then went down to the market, they have a good little wine store down there and we are allow to bring a bottle on the ship for our own consumption.  We picked up one bottle.

We then went back to the hotel to drop off our stuff, then went for lunch.  We found a good diner nearby.  To finish the day we bought tickets for a tour around the city.  We met up with the tour guide and we got luck we were the only couple on the tour.    She took us around the city, to places where we had not been before.

We were taken thorugh neighbourhoods, one of the highlights was to the waterfront where the fishing boats and trawlers tieup. Seattle has the busiest lock system in the world for small boats, only the Panama and Suez canal locks are busier but also much bigger.  They also have a salmon ladder here as this is a huge breeding area for wild salmon, the tour guide (Olivia) she is a huge advocate for the preservation of the salmon around here and she did a talk for the visitors to this center.  They also have a great viewing area of the salmon laddre where you can actually see the salmon moving through the ladder.

She then took us to one of the richest places in Seattle, where you can find many very expensive houses, the reason is that the view from here is great you get a fantastic view of puget sound and the city of Seattle.  We stopped at Kerry park where they have a look out where you can stop and take in the view and get some great pictures.

Other points of interest were at the fremont troll, this is a huge statue of a troll under the Aurora bridge holding a VW bettle.

Tomorrow we board the ship and start our cruise.
