Today we drove from Evora to Nazare, with a stop in Tomar.  We stopped in Tomar to take a look at the convent du Christo.  This is a huge site basically a castle built on a hill.  This is one of the larger sites we've seen throughout Europe.   The site is a maze,  with outside cloisters between each section of the convent.  It took us about three hours to see the whole thing,  and honestly I don't think we did see it all.

After our visit to Tomar we made our way to Nazare, beach an HD surfing town.

Arriving in Nazare, was a bit of a challenge,  the street are narrow and busy. Our hotel was right down on the waterfront,  where everyone wants to hangout and with very little parking it was a bit stressful to say the least,  we found a spot to park at least so we could check in to the hotel.

Then we had to find the hotel parking,  which is underground.  We have had so much luck with underground parking.  It was tight, very tight in places, and the spots were small, this is why we wanted a small car, but of course they upgraded us to a full size SUV so parking was "fun".  Once we had the car parked it was going to stay parked until the next leg of the journey.

The major attractions in Nazare are the beach and in the winter the big, big waves.  This is the premiere place on the planet for big wave surfers.  This is going to be an easy stop, no big sites with a lot of walking, climbing etc. just some leasurly walks along the beach, we put our feet in the sand and in the Atlantic (the water is just as cold on this side) and checking out the sea side shops.  So we took our time and checked out the scene, and stopped for a drink along the way.  We had made plans for supper at 8:00pm.

We had dinner at the hotel, its one of the better places in Nazare to have dinner.  We ordered the fresh sea bass for two.  The waiter brought us the fish that they were going to prepare for us.  We ordered a bottle of wine, with the dinner, a bottle from a vineyard that we had visited the day before.  The meal was awesome, the bass was cooked to perfection, we had some veggies with it but the feature was certainly the fish.  We then had desert, a local sweet cake, and then espresso and a digestive which we did not get the name of, but it was sooo good.

Off to bed.
